Rosalie is a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association (BCRMTA). She joined the association in 1997 after receiving her Associate for the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (ARCT) diploma.
Founder and director of the West Coast Fiddleheads, Rosalie’s appreciation for the orchestra began with her afficiation with the Vancouver Corelli Strings, under the direction of Ona Cropper at the age of 10. Lessons began at the age of 9 with Ona. She worked her way up the ranks to the position of concert master, featured soloist and associate director. In her early teens, she was a member of the Vancouver Junior Philharmonic String Orchestra under the direction of Douglas Stewart. Rosalie received instruction at fiddle workshops from well-known Irish Fiddlers, Kevin Burke, Liz Carroll and Cape Breton Fiddler, Gillian Boucher and Scottish Fiddlers, Adam Sutherland and Alistair Fraser.
Rosalie is a member of the well established celtic group, Blackthorn, who perform in the lower mainland and abroad. They have recorded 4 albums which include a number of Rosalie’s compositions.
Rosalie performed & recorded 2 albums with The Carpenter’s Son. Other performances with groups: The Squid Jiggers, Sunshine and You, The Streels, The Halifax Wharf Rats and currently with Triskellion. You can find this gypsy fiddler hanging around at the sessions in Vancouver: Johnny Fox’s Irish Snug, Smith’s in Gastown, Shamrock Alley (Denman St) and Wolf and Hound.
During Covid Rosalie & Michael Viens launched the online Cat Nap Inn which allowed local musicians, professional and amateur to continue with their Irish, Scottish, French Canadian repertoire in a forum on Zoom which then continued in person at Jericho Beach during the summer.
2020 also saw the launch of the Cat Nap Music Camp. Registration is now open for Cat Nap Music Camp July 3 to 6, 2023.
Aside from teaching private lessons, group lessons and instructing the West Coast Fiddleheads, Rosalie is happy to host workshops throughout the lower mainland. Past workshops include: Georgia Strait Guitar Workshop, The Moveable Music School and the Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra.
